The greatest fantasy epic cube of our time

LOR is a 360 card draftable cube that features the world of J. R. R. Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit books and films.

The set’s gameplay is focused around combat. Many of the abilities present aid you in combat or somehow affect the ever growing battle.

The archetypes present to draft focus on one of two aspects of middle earth, The War and The World. Each of the War archetypes focus on one of middle earth's races and how their battle styles differ using named mechanics for each race. The world archetypes focus on other aspects of the world of middle earth as a whole and how it influences it’s other inhabitants and conflicts.

The War Archetypes (allied colors):

U/W Elves (Symbol of the elessar) - Elves focus on maintaining a superior position on the battlefield through the use of efficient white creatures and powerful blue magic. Their named mechanic is Scry. Elves will foresee and alter their own future to provide themselves with timely aid.

U/B Uruk-hai (Symbol of the white hand) - Saruman’s engineered Uruk-hai are relentless in their assault of middle earth. They are tough and don’t go down without taking something from the enemy first. Their named mechanic is Afflict. The Uruk-hai will inevitably win with afflict damage if not dealt with. Letting a Uruk-hai go unblocked can also be very detrimental.

B/R Orcs (Symbol of the great eye) - Orcs have the speed and numbers to overwhelm any other army. Constant attacks from them will have you meet your demise sooner rather than later. Their named mechanic is Raid. Orcs need to be constantly attacking to get their powerful raid bonuses. It only takes a few Orc raids before your victory is no longer within reach. Note: Orcs and Goblins are functionally the same in most of Tolkein's works. They are also all just called Orcs in this set for simplicity.

R/G Dwarves (Symbol of Khazad-dum) - None are there in middle earth that can outmuscle a dwarf. They are built strong and have very quick tempers. Their named mechanic is Enrage. When dwarves are dealt damage, they get mad and take a stand, oftentimes getting stronger, faster, or just throwing an axe at your face!

G/W Humans (Symbol of the white tree) - Humans are versatile and look out for one another. They are formidable opponents as long as they always lookout for their own weaknesses. Their named mechanic is Bolster. Humans will make strong the weak among them and make sure everyone is prepared for battle.

The World Archetypes (enemy colors):

W/B Legendary (Symbol of the crown of the king) - Throughout middle earth are numerous Legendary Creatures known for their fantastic abilities and heroic or terrible deeds. Present in white and black are truly regal cards that reward you for playing many legendary creatures. Create an army fit for a king.

W/R Armies (Symbol of Tolkein) - Middle earth is known for its truly massive and impressive and impressive armies on each side of its many conflicts. Some white and red cards will reward you for Controlling a Large Number of Creatures. Storm your opponent with the overwhelming forces present in the world.

U/R Artifice (Symbol of the Arkenstone) - Many rare and valuable artifacts and treasures are ready for the taking in the world. Red and Blue cards exist to give you benefits for Controlling Artifacts. Seek treasures and riches to invent your way to prosperity.

U/G Wilderness (Symbol of the Shire) - The wilds are full of treacherous terrain and unfathomable monsters. Blue and green cards will reward you for Playing Land Cards and Casting Spells With mana value 5 or Greater. Explore the wilds and claim many lands and when you have enough mana, summon the largest and most impactful spells to aid in your quest.

B/G Foul Things and Haunted Places (Symbol of the Spider) - Call to your aid that which haunts the barrow down or lurks in the shadows of mirkwood. Unspeakable horrors will aid you as you Fill Your Graveyard with Creatures. Dark creatures feed off of the dead and grow strong and dangerous. The more dead creatures you have the more powerful you become.

Other Mechanics:

Maiar - The wizards of middle earth are represented as maiar cards. Maiar cards are a flavorful renaming of planeswalker. they are functionally identical to planeswalkers.

Rings - Rings are powerful artifacts with a special watermark. They will always be able to be equipped for 0 (free).

Transforming DFCs - A Few notable cards can transform, showcasing grand and sometimes terrifying changes.

Sagas - Sagas are present and tell stories of legends from before the current age of middle earth. Many of which are found in the Silmarillion! These cards have a unique stained glass art to set them apart.

Adventures - Some creatures feel compelled to embark on an adventure! Cast the adventure card first and then once their adventure is done, your creature can return to the battlefield to help you fight!

Note: All card appear as rare in the set. Since this set is designed as a cube, rarity is not important and all of the card are designed to be about the same power level anyway. Also the rare set logo appears best on the cards.
